Master Chief Lewis is originally from Sacramento, California, graduated from Hiram W. Johnson High School on 8 June 1973. He reported to Navy Boot Camp at Recruit Training Center, San Diego, California on 11 June 1973. He attended Hospital Corpsman “A” School in San Diego, and then in February 1974, attended Operating Room Technician “C” School at Naval Regional Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia.
Upon graduating he was assigned in the Operating Room at NRMC Portsmouth. In 1975, he transferred to the Branch Naval Hospital, Marine Corps Desert Training Center, Twenty-nine Palms California, where he achieved the rate of HM2 and completed his first active duty enlistment in June 1977. Master Chief Lewis had a break-in-service where he worked as a Senior Surgical Technician. In June 1986, he enlisted in the Navy Reserves and was later recalled to active duty; Full Time Support (FTS) in October 1988.
Master Chief Lewis’ other assignments: NR Naval Hospital Oakland, NR USNS MERCY (TAH 19); Navy Marine Corps Reserve Center, Sacramento, California and Naval Marine Corps Reserve Readiness Center, Phoenix, Arizona. His Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) assignments; USS JOHN A. MOORE (FFG 19), Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit TEN, Ft Story, Virginia, USS CHAMPION (MCM 4), COMDESRON ONE IDC Supervisor; deploying as Command Staff for CARAT 1999 and 2001, COMNAVRESFORCOM Reserve Force Medical, Master Chief Hospital Corpsman. Master Chief Lewis’ Command Master Chief Assignments include: USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41), Navy Operational Support Center, Los Angeles. He reported aboard as Command Master Chief in USS STERETT (DDG 104) in June 2010.
His education also includes: Independent Duty Corpsman “C” School, Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 113 Gold and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course, Class 012. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo.
