Honiara, Guadalcanal - QM1(SW/AW) Charles Thompson poses with Michael Bratten and his father, former Storekeeper Second Class Walter Bratten. Petty Officer Thompson reenlisted on August 6, 2012, after USS SAMPSON anchored in Iron Bottom Sound off the coast of Honiara, Guadalcanal. Walter Bratten was assigned to the USS CUSHING (DD 376) and is a survivor of the Battle of Guadalcanal. USS SAMPSON is in port Honiara for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal.
