Sampson Crew Raises $7,731 for NMCRS
SAN DIEGO – The crew of the guided missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) raised a total of $7,371 in donations for the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), smashing prior year’s contributions by double in just two weeks.

The representatives reach 100% contact of the 289 Sailors who serve on board Sampson through a popular in-house fundraiser know as the “pie toss.” The event allowed crew members to vote for their favorites who would receive a pie in the face for charity.

This year's NMCRS fund drive was a complete success thanks to the hard work and dedication of the division representatives: Sonar Technician (Surface) Seaman Cristie Carlisle, Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Shawn Northern, Yeoman 3rd Class Jonathan Douglas, Fire Controlman 2nd Class Christopher Strong, Operations Specialist 3rd Class Taylor Tooman, Electronics Technician 2nd Class Christopher Deditz, Fire Controlman 2nd Class Blong Thao, Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Vanessa Alvarez, Culinary Specialist 3rd Class Mico Tawatao, Ship’s Serviceman Seaman Jessica McGillivray, Information Systems Technicain 2nd Class Cheyenne Bedell, Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Andrew Lord, Electrican’s Mate Fireman Jeremy Knase, Damage Controlman Fireman Kenneth Sparks, Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Emily Coler, and Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Electrical) 3rd Class Jarred Robinson.

The command also gives a special thanks to the four selected winners of the pie toss: Chief Damage Controlman Todd Hillberg, Command Master Chief Jeffrey Easson, Lt. Gary Bissonette, and Fire Controlman 1st Class Travis Carpenter for their participation.
