|CDR Marc D. Crawford
Commander Crawford is a native of Ft. Wayne, IN. He graduated from the University of Central Florida in August 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. After completing his degree, Commander Crawford attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Pensacola, FL and earned his commission in December 1997. Following OCS, Commander Crawford attended Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, R.I. from January to July 1998.
In July 1998, Commander Crawford reported to USS DE WERT (FFG 45) as First Lieutenant. Onboard DE WERT, he deployed with Standing Naval Forces Atlantic, a rapid response NATO task force. While deployed, DE WERT participated in Operation NOBLE ANVIL in support of NATO strikes against Kosovo.
After serving aboard DE WERT, Commander Crawford reported to USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64) in October 2000 as Fire Control Officer. While deployed as part of ENTERPRISE Battle Group, GETTYSBURG conducted operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in response to the 9/11 attacks.
In May 2002, Commander Crawford reported to US Pacific Fleet Headquarters, Pearl Harbor, HI as the Current Surface Operations Officer. During his tour at US Pacific Fleet, Commander Crawford coordinated Carrier Strike Group and surface ship deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and the U.S. Navy Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief response to the 2004 Southeast Asia Tsunami. While in Hawaii, Commander Crawford also earned a MBA from University of Hawaii.
From June 2006 to January 2009, Commander Crawford served aboard USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80) as Operations Officer and Combat Systems Officer. He took ROOSEVELT through two arduous Fleet Response Plan Training Cycles and two overseas deployments in support of the Global War on Terror.
In February 2010, Commander Crawford graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. with a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. Following the Naval War College, Commander Crawford served as part of the cadre standing up Navy Air and Missile Defense Command, from March 2010-March 2012.
From March 2012-July 2013, Commander Crawford served as the Force Personnel Officer at Commander, Naval Surface Forces, US Pacific Fleet. Commander Crawford was responsible for the manning readiness of over 175 ships/units and 32 subordinate ISICs across five homeports.
He most recently served as Executive Officer in USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) from March 2014 – July 2015.
Commander Crawford’s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (6 Awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards), Atlantic Fleet Shiphandler of the Year, Tactician of the Year, and the Arleigh Burke Leadership award.
