Commanding Officer

Commander Nieswiadomy is a native of Fort Worth, Texas. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU) where he earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Political Science and History. He received his commission at Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, in 1996.
His first sea tour assignment was in USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) where he served as the commissioning Boilers/Main Propulsion Division Officer and later CIC Division Officer deploying to both the Arabian Gulf and Western Pacific Ocean for the ship's maiden deployment in January 2000. His second sea tour assignment was as Chief Engineer onboard USS SHRIKE (MHC 62) from 2000 to 2002.
Commander Nieswiadomy was next assigned as commissioning Operations Officer in USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, from 2004 to 2006. His subsequent Department Head assignment was as Operations Officer in USS COWPENS (CG 63) forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan from 2006 to 2008. During this tour COWPENS served as the Air Defense Commander for the KITTY HAWK Strike Group and also participated in numerous joint and multi-lateral exercises throughout the western Pacific and Indian Ocean including Talisman Saber, Foal Eagle, Valiant Shield, Malabar, and Annualex.
Commander Nieswiadomy's staff assignments include Flag Secretary and Assistant Chief of Staff for Administration and Personnel (N1) for Commander, Task Force 76 / Expeditionary Strike Group SEVEN, Okinawa, Japan from 2007 to 2009. In December 2009 he was assigned as the Maritime Strike Officer for Commander, Striking and Support Force NATO, in Naples, Italy. In this position he served as the lead Maritime Planner for NATO Response Force 2012 and also served on the staff of CJTF Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR, in support of NATO's operation to protect civilian populations in Libya. He most recently served as Executive Officer in USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) from August 2012 to March 2014.
Commander Nieswiadomy is a graduate of the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Masters of Arts Degree in National Security Affairs in 2003. He is also a recipient of the Louis D. Liskin Award for Excellence in Regional Security Studies.
Commander Nieswiadomy has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal.
