|CDR Joel S. Uzarski
CDR Uzarski, a native of Ada, Michigan, graduated and commissioned in 2000 from United States Naval Academy with a bachelor’s degree in General Engineering. He graduated from Naval Postgraduate School in 2007 with a Master of Science in Computer Science. At sea, he served as operational intelligence and electrical division officer aboard USS Fletcher (DD 992); training officer aboard USS McFaul (DDG 74); and Weapons/Combat System Officer aboard USS Lake Erie (CG 70).
As division officer on USS Fletcher he deployed to the Arabian Gulf and participated in maritime interception operations in support of United Nations sanctions against Iraq. As division officer on USS McFaul, he deployed to the Middle East supporting Operation Enduring Freedom (Horn of Africa) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Arabian Gulf). Most recently, as department head on USS Lake Erie, he deployed to the Western Pacific as an independent U.S. 7th Fleet deployer participating in multiple exercises and engagements with foreign navies throughout the region.
His shore tour was filling a joint assignment at the Missile Defense Agency HQ while holding multiple positions including Executive Officer to the Deputy Director; Chief of Staff for Standard Missile 3 Block IIB program; and as an action officer for Director of Warfighter Strategic Integration.
CDR Uzarski’s last tour was as test and evaluation officer for PMS 420, Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) Mission Modules, Program Executive Officer LCS. CDR Uzarski reported as Executive Officer, USS Gridley, in December 2016.
CDR Uzarski’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
