|CDR Blandino A. Villanueva
Commander Blandino A. Villanueva is from Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended San Diego State University, where he earned a Bachelor of
Science in Kinesiology. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1998.
CDR Villanueva’s initial sea duty assignment was First Division Officer and Assistant First Lieutenant in USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47). His next tour was Fire Control Officer in USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53).
For shore duty he was stationed in Tactical Training Group, Pacific where he served as Sea Launched Attack Missile Exercise Officer. While on shore duty he attended the University of San Diego where he earned a Master of Science in Global Leadership.
His first department head tour was Chief Engineer in USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG 48). His second department head tour was Material Officer in Commander, Destroyer Squadron Two One. Upon completion, he served as Flag Aide to Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command.
CDR Villanueva then graduated from the U.S. Naval War College and earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies, while attending the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School. He then served as Branch Chief for Korea Plans in Commander, Seventh Fleet. He is currently the XO of USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101).
