USS Kidd (DDG 100)
"On to Victory"
Dear New Shipmate,

Welcome aboard!! Congratulations on your orders to one of the Navy’s finest warships. As a new member of Team KIDD, we want you to know you are joining not only one of the newest ships, but also a very proud team of United States Sailors. We guarantee you will not be disappointed with this assignment. KIDD is equipped with advanced weapons and surveillance systems in the world. We also have a hard earned golden rep on the waterfront!

We’re definitely looking forward to having you as a member of our team. If by some chance you have not already been contacted by your sponsor, please contact me at cmc@ddg100.navy.mil.

In order to provide a smooth transition and relocation, we’d like to ask you to please provide your sponsor and/or me with the following information:

- Total Years of Service
- Previous Assignments
- Marital Status
- Number/Ages/Relationship of Dependents
- Any Special Family Member Needs (EFM)?
- Would you like government quarters if eligible?
- Leave and arrival intentions
- Any special hobbies or skills
- Leave address, phone number and email address

Living space and places to keep all your belongings aboard KIDD is very limited. Please remember this when you pack for your move. If you arrive with more than a Sea bag and Garment bag, then you probably have too much stuff. We want you to come with a full sea bag because we are world wide deployable at any time. Ten different pairs of your favorite sneakers and a pair of work boots for each day of the week may not work out that well with our limited storage space.
The San Diego area is extremely beautiful, but fairly expensive! The cost of housing, food, and entertainment is high. There are still plenty of things to see and do on a budget, but be aware that you are coming to an area that people come from all over the world to visit, so we pay a little more for it.

In the event we are not in Homeport on your arrival to Naval Base San Diego, please report to Transient Personnel Unit, San Diego, CA. Please make a note of your new mailing address:

If you are married or have children, we would like to extend a warm welcome to your family. We hope to meet them at the earliest opportunity. If you are single with custody of your children, or married to another military person with children ensure your dependent care certificate/family care plan is current and within the last three months prior to transferring.

The work and schedule are tough, but manageable. We are a Warship that needs to be ready at a moments notice to deploy anywhere. That means that we have to work hard to keep ourselves, our ship and our families ready to take care of business with very little prep time. You'll be expected to do your part from the moment you step on board but don't worry, we'll help you every step of the way! You can expect your sponsor to write you, call you and to provide an email address where you may contact them to answer questions, and help ease your transition to TEAM KIDD every step of the way.
We know that you’re probably very excited to get here, maybe even a little nervous. That’s OK, and to be expected. As long as you bring your positive attitude, motivation and an open mind, you will absolutely enjoy your tour onboard KIDD!
I look forward to your arrival. Once again, welcome to the KIDD Team!!

Sincerely,
P.  Brock
Command Master Chief
