Senior Enlisted Leader
Senior Chief Currie is a native of San Diego, CA. He enlisted in the Delayed Entry Program in July of 1994 at Agana, Guam, attending recruit training at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois in November 1994.
He completed Operations Specialist “A” School in Fleet Combat Training Center, Atlantic (FCTCLANT) in Virginia Beach, VA in April 1995.
He reported to USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG-51) in of May of 1995 completing two deployments in the Arabian Gulf, Mediterranean, Black, Adriatic Seas in support of Operation DENY FLIGHT, PROVIDE PROMISE, SHARP GUARD, and several patrols to the Caribbean Sea and Northern Atlantic in support of multi-national operations. His duties included Tactical Data Link Supervisor, Air Intercept Controller (AIC), and Combat Information Center (CIC) Watch Supervisor.
He reported to TACTICAL AIR CONTROL SQUADRON TWELVE (VTC-12) at Coronado, CA in March, 2000. He deployed with TACRON det 4 to Okinawa, Japan as a part of CTF-76 in support of exercises ULCHI FOCUS LENSE and FOUL EAGLE 2000. He also attained the AIC Supervisor designation and deployed with TACRON det 1 on board USS TARAWA (LHA-1) in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM conducting Fleet Area Defense and Identification Zone Controller (BLUECROWN). His duties included Detachment Leading Petty Officer.
He reported to FLEET COMBAT TRAINING CENTER, PACIFIC and further assigned to TACTICAL TRAINING GROUP, PACIFIC at San Diego, CA in September 2003. Assigned to the Simulated Training Division as Division Leading Petty Officer, he was charged with running Combat Simulators for Tactical Action Officers, Combat Air Controllers, and Weapons Coordinators. He was also an instructor for the Joint Augmentation Staff Course teaching Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS) for Combined Air Operations Center augmentees.
He reported to PCU MAKIN ISLAND (LHD-8) detachment at Training Support Center San Diego, CA in August 2006 as the Operations Department Leading Petty Officer. While assigned to PCD MAKIN ISLAND, he deployed in USS Gettysburg (CG-64) where he qualified Force Anti-Air Warfare Coordinator (AAWC).
OSCS Currie reported to USS O’KANE (DDG-77) stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI in January 2008, completing five surge deployments in the Far East and Middle East regions conducting Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) operations. His duties included Assistant Navigator, Leading Chief Petty Officer for Navigation and OI Divisions, CIC Watch Officer, Air Intercept Controller Supervisor and Anti-Air Warfare Coordinator. While attached, he was selected for Chief Petty Officer.
He reported to CARRIER AIR WING NINE (CVW-9) at Lemoore, CA in March 2011, completing two deployments in the Arabian Gulf on USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) conducting operations in support of OPERATION NEW DAWN and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. His duties included Air Wing Operations Chief and CARRIER STRIKE GROUP THREE (CSG-3) Air Control Supervisor. While attached, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2012.
He qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist qualifications. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (one gold star) as well as other unit and campaign awards.
Senior Chief Currie currently serves as the Air Intercept Controller Supervisor for Commander, Tactical Air Control Group One and Expeditionary Strike Group THREE.
