Senior Chief Machinist Mate Willis Dean Wainwright, a native of Marion, Louisiana, graduated from Marion High School in 1986, graduated from Doncaster University with a Master Degree in Engineering with an emphasis on Engineering Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in 2007.

Senior Machinist Mate Wainwright entered the Navy in February 1988, enlisting as a Boiler Technician and attending "A" School in Chicago Illinois from July 1989 ot December 1989.

He reported to USS BARBEY (FF-1088) in March 1990 until March 1992. Additionally, he has served on USS JOUETT (CG-29) from March 1992 to March 1994, USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) from May 1997 to February 2000, USS Cleveland (LPD-7)from May 2003 to April 2005, USS Denver (LPD-9) from February 2008 to July 2008, USS JUNEAU (LPD-10)from July 2008 to October 2008 and COMPHIBRON SEVEN from November to present.

His shore duty assignments included Diego Garcia from May 1988 to May 1989, Navy Recruiting District, Montgomery, Alabama from May 1994 to May 1997, Naval Station Sigonella, Italy from May 2000 to April 2003, and Afloat Training Group San Diego, CA from May 2005 to December 2007.

Senior Chief Wainwright awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Fifth Gold Star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Third Gold Star) and various campaign, service, and unit awards.
