|CAPT Mike Crary
Capt. Mike Crary grew up in Tupper Lake, N.Y. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1992 with a B.S. in Oceanography.
Capt. Crary reported to USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47) in February 1993 and served as Weapons, Repair, and Electrical Officer. During his tour onboard RUSHMORE, Capt. Crary completed two Persian Gulf deployments. In March 1996, Capt. Crary reported to COMPHIBRON SEVEN as Asst. Operations Officer. He completed another Persian Gulf deployment.
Capt. Crary attended Naval Postgraduate School from 1997 until 1999. He earned a Master’s degree in Operations Research and was a finalist for the MORS award.
From May 2000 until February 2002, he returned to RUSHMORE and served as First Lieutenant. He completed a deployment to the Western Pacific. Capt. Crary was assigned as First Lieutenant on USS PELELIU (LHA 5) from April 2002 until October 2003 and participated in the first workups for Expeditionary Strike Group One.
Capt. Crary graduated from the Naval Command and Staff College in November 2004. He earned a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and was also designated as a Halsey Scholar.
From February 2005 until October 2006, he served as Executive Officer on USS JUNEAU (LPD 10), forward deployed to Japan. While onboard JUNEAU, he completed deployments in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.
Capt. Crary served as Deputy Force Operations Officer at Commander, Naval Surface Forces in San Diego, CA from November 2006 to August 2008.
In November 2008, Capt. Crary reported onboard USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42) as Executive Officer. He assumed command of GERMANTOWN in October 2009 and executed an INSURV, Western Pacific deployment in support of Operation TOMADACHI, and a hull swap with USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49).
Following his command tour, Capt. Crary attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, earning a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. Capt. Crary’s most recent tour was Senior Military Evaluator for the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation.
His military decorations include the Defense Superior, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
