CPR 3 Holds Change of Command
Amphibious Squadron Three (CPR 3) held a change of command ceremony aboard USS Peleliu (LHA 5) in San Diego, CA on July 14th.

PHIBRON THREE, which is part of Expeditionary Strike Group Three, bid farewell to Captain Dale G. Fuller, departing Commander, and welcomed back Captain Mark T. Sakaguchi as the new Commander.

Capt Fuller, originally from Philadelphia, PA, commanded the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) for a 2010 deployment to 5th and 7th fleets.  The 2010 Peleliu ARG consisted of USS Peleliu (LHA 5), USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), USS Dubuque (LPD 8) and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  Some of the numerous accomplishments of the deployment included supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, Disaster Relief Operations after flooding in Pakistan, and counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden.

Capt Sakaguchi, a native of Cinnaminson, NJ, has been serving on the PHIBRON THREE staff since 2009 as the Deputy Commander, and is eager to lead the Squadron to new successes on the waterfront.  “Our ships have exhibited operational excellence at home and abroad and I look forward to continuing these accomplishments into the future,” said Sakaguchi.

Captain Shawn Lobree assumed duties as Deputy Commander from Capt Sakaguchi in June 2011.  Capt Lobree hails from Miami, FL and arrived in San Diego, CA after a tour as Deputy Director, J6 at Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, VA.

PHIBRON THREE is one of seven U.S. Navy amphibious squadrons and is currently responsible for USS Peleliu (LHA 5), USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), USS Cleveland (LPD 7) and USS Rushmore (LSD 47).  PHIBRON THREE’s primary mission is to command an ARG and coordinate amphibious operations with an embarked MEU.
