Captain Doyon is a San Antonio, Texas native. Enlisting in the Navy in 1987, he was selected for and graduated from the Broadened Opportunities for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program in 1988 and then attended Norwich University – Military College in Northfield, VT and graduated with a Business Degree in 1992.
After graduation, CAPT Doyon attended the Surface Warfare Division Officer Course in San Diego, CA. In January 1993 he reported to USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42) in Sasebo, Japan where he served as Weapons Officer, First Lieutenant, M Division Officer, Chief Engineer and Navigator. In January 1997 he reported to the Bureau of Naval Personnel (PERS 41) in Washington, DC serving as the DIVO Detailer. Then in 1999 he reported to the USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) in Norfolk, VA where he served as the Operations Officer. Upon completing his tour, CAPT Doyon transferred to COMPHIBRON 4 in September 2000 as the N3.
After completing his tour at COMPHIBRON 4, he reported to COMPHIBGRU TWO in August 2002 as the Flag Secretary. After CAPT Doyon’s tour as Flag Secretary, he reported to the Naval War College in Newport, RI and was awarded his Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies. In July 2005, he reported aboard the USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) home ported in Norfolk, VA as the Executive Officer. Upon departing in January 2007 CAPT Doyon reported to OPNAV N85 as the In Service Amphibious Ships Requirements Officer.
CAPT Doyon reported to USS CARTER HALL(LSD 50), home ported at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story, in May 2009 to serve as Executive Officer as part of XO/CO fleet up and assumed command in December 2009. Less than a month after taking command CAPT Doyon led relief efforts during Operation Unified Response – Haiti as the first ship to arrive from Norfolk and orchestrated the landings from which all relief supplies subsequently flowed. Upon return to home port, CARTER HALL was called upon to deploy early, and after a highly compressed 4 month workup, CAPT Doyon guided his crew through an extended 9-month Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea deployment, which included Maritime Security Operations in the Persian Gulf, counter piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and support for Operation Odyssey Dawn off the coast of Libya. After relinquishing command of CARTER HALL in June 2011 he reported to the Chief of Naval Operations Staff as the Executive Assistant to the Director for Expeditionary Warfare until January 2013, when he transferred to USSTRATCOM as the LNO to USAFRICOM in Stuttgart, Germany. CAPT Doyon reported to AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON ELEVEN in Sasebo, Japan in May 2015 as the Deputy Commodore and took command as the Commodore in January 2017.
CAPT Doyon’s personal decorations include the Defense and Navy Meritorious Service Medals, the Defense and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and various service and campaign decorations.
