MSgt Ramiro A. Hurtado

Master Sgt. Ramiro A. Hurtado is a native of Pittsburg, California and a graduate of Pittsburg Senior High class of 2000. Master Sgt. Hurtado enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1999 and attended boot camp in July 2000 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

In November 2000 he graduated military occupation school for embarkation in Jacksonville, North Carolina. His first duty assignment was with Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 in Yuma, Arizona, where he served as an embark specialist. His subsequent tours and billets include: Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 Embark Chief and Logistics Chief, Marine Wing Support Squadron 473 Inspector and Instructor Staff and Color Sgt, 3d Radio Battalion Embark Chief and Platoon Sgt., 3d Marine Regiment Logistics Chief and Platoon Sgt., USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Senior Combat Cargo Assistant and Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) ONE Combat Cargo Assistant and Senior Enlisted Leader.

Over his career Hurtado has deployed five times. He first deployed as a Corporal to Kuwait and Iraq in 2003 with 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Staff Sgt., he deployed to Iraq with 2nd Marine Air Wing in 2007-2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His third deployment was as a Staff Sgt to Afghanistan in 2009-2010 with 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His first sea deployment was as a Gunnery Sgt. aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) in 2014-2015 with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU)/Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) in support of their Western Pacific deployment. Upon returning from deployment he was transferred to PHIBRON 1 to begin the deployment work-up schedule. He deployed February 2016 with the 13th MEU/BOX ARG in support of their Western Pacific deployment.

Master Sgt. Hurtado took over as Senior Enlisted Leader for Commander Amphibious Squadron ONE in July 2016, where he currently serves.

His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
