MMCM Shane Lazio is a native of Omaha, Nebraska. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program on April 20, 1984, and attended boot camp at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois on December 27th 1984. Upon his graduation from Boot Camp and apprenticeship A school on April 11th 1985 he shipped out to his first sea going command.

Master Chief Lazio’s first duty assignment was the USS MOUNT HOOD (AE-29), at Naval Weapons Station, Concord, California where he proudly worked in STREAM Division and cross rated from Seaman to Fireman then advanced to the proud rank of Petty Officer 3rd class. He then transferred to Naval Station Treasure Island for follow on orders.

He then transferred on January 9th 1989 to USS ENTERPRZE (CVN-65) where he participated in Operation Classic Resolve during the rebel coup attempt against Philippine President Corazon Aquino then on to the Indian Ocean. 1990 brought an around the world tour with a home port change to New Port News, Virginia for a scheduled refueling where he was command advanced to Petty Officer Second Class.

March 2nd 1993 Master Chief Lazio transferred to Naval Recruiting District Omaha, Nebraska where he was promoted to Machinist Mate 1st Class. It was there that he earned 12 gold Wreaths after ENRO school by taking over the Reserve Officer Training Corp program bringing it from 35th in the nation to 5 in just 7 short months. Upon completing a very successful recruiting tour he transferred to USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70).

Once aboard the CARL VINSON, he deployed in early November 1998 in support of RIMPAC ’98. While on this deployment, he earned both his Enlisted Aviation Warfare and was selected to Chief Petty Officer. It was on September 11th 2001 when he realized what becoming a Chief was all about as he witnessed on TV the twin towers crumbled to ground. On Oct. 7, 2001, just 36 hours after our new commanding officer, CAPT Richard Wren assumed command we launched the first strikes in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Master Chief Lazio’s duty continued in San Diego California at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity as a Ships Superintendent for the DDG and FFG Class ships. He was selected to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer where he trained and mentored 3 years of our future Chief Petty Officers thru the Induction Season process.

In December 2005, Master Chief Lazio joined the Crew of the might war ship USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) and Carrier strike group eleven where he attended the Senior Enlisted academy (Class 134 Blue) in Newport Rhode Island and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer.

Wanting the spread his wings Master Chief Lazio set course for fwd deployed duty at Ships Repair Facility, Yokosuka, Japan. He was assigned to Ship Superintendant and the Senior Enlisted Leader.

Master Chief now looks fwd to his twilight tour at COMPHIBRON 1 to wrap up his 30 years of proud Naval service.

His personal awards include One Meritorious Service Medal, Four Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, along with numerous other campaign awards.
