Senior Enlisted Leader (October 2010 - October 2012)

Chief Mineman Elvin G. Basinger is a native of Eucha, OK. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 5th, 1994 and attended Basic Training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes IL.
His first assignment was USS John F. Kennedy, based in Mayport, FL, where he learned in all three divisions. First Division: Anchoring and Towing, Second Division: Underway Replenishment and rigging, and Third Division: Boats and Cranes. During this time MNC Basinger made 2 deployments to the Mediterranean/ Arabian Gulf and one North Atlantic cruise.
In May 2000, MNC Basinger reported to Navy Recruiting District Nashville, TN. and was assigned to Navy Recruiting Station Evansville, IN. He served for 3 years as a successful recruiter.
In August 2003 he crossrated and was accepted to MN “A” school, and graduated top of his class. He attended AN/SLQ-48 Mine Neutralization operator and technician “C” school, and reported onboard USS SHRIKE in May 2004. He then attended AN/SQQ-32 Minehunting Sonar operator and maintenance “C” school, and worked as OI01 LPO. The crew on SHRIKE was designated MHC Crew Bold for crew rotations. While with MHC Crew Bold he worked as Ship’s First LT, Ship’s Armorer, and CIC LPO. He attended ROLMS school in March 2006. In June 2006 he attended Small Arms Instructor School in San Diego CA.
In March 2007 MHC Crew Bold was decommissioned and MNC was transferred to MCM Crew Leader. Onboard Crew Leader he was Combat/Deck LPO. On September 21 he was selected and advanced to Chief Petty Officer. In April 2008 he was transferred to COMCM Division Eleven, which later merged with another command and became COMCM Squadron Seven.
MNC Basinger’s Qualifications include: Staff Duty Officer, Tactical Action Officer, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Air warfare Specialist, ROLMS Operator, Small Arms Instructor, SQQ-32 sonar, and SLQ-48 MNV Technician, Command Duty Officer, CIC Watch Sup, and TAO. His decorations include Navy and Marine Corp. Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corp. Achievement Medal (6 awards), Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), Enlisted Navy Recruiting award, Iraqi Campaign Medal and other personal and unit awards.
