RDML John. V. Fuller

Rear Admiral Fuller is the son of a retired Army Colonel. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 1987.

Fullers' initial sea duty assignment was in USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG-48) as Damage Control Assistant and then Combat Information Center Officer from September 1988 until June 1991. During his tour, VANDEGRIFT conducted two deployments to 5th Fleet, participating in Operations EARNEST WILL and DESERT SHIELD.

As a Department Head, Fuller served as Chief Engineer in USS KAUFFMAN (FFG-59) from January 1994 to November 1995; as a space inspector on the Commander, Atlantic Fleet Propulsion Examining Board from November 1995 to November 1997; and as the Flag Secretary to Commander, Amphibious Force, Seventh Fleet stationed in Okinawa, Japan from November 1997 to November 1999.

His next sea duty assignment was in Yokosuka, Japan as the Executive Officer in USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG-54) from March 2001 to July 2002, where the ship conducted an emergent deployment with USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63) to support Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Fuller commanded USS MASON (DDG-87) from January 2006 to August 2007. MASON conducted an eight month deployment with the EISENHOWER Strike Group to 5th and 6th Fleets serving as the alternate air and alternate surface warfare commander. Fuller was assigned as the Destroyer Squadron Twenty Two Deputy Commodore from November 2010 until January 2012.

As the Deputy Commodore, he also assumed duties as Commander, Task Group - Iraqi Maritime, where he and his staff turned over the Al Basrah Oil Terminal to the Iraqi government. Fuller commanded Destroyer Squadron Twenty Two from January 2012 until May 2013.

Ashore, Fuller served in the Surface Warfare Directorate (then N76) on the Navy Staff from July 2002 to April 2005 as the Plans & Policy/Community Issues Section Head and as the Strategy & Alignment Branch Head. He served as the 4th Battalion Officer at the United States Naval Academy from September 2007 to December 2008. His second Pentagon assignment was as the Military Assistant to the Director, Rapid Fielding, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense under AT&L. He served in OPNAV as the special assistant to the Chairman of the LCS/JHSV Council, the Small Surface Combatant Task Force and most recently as the Deputy for LCS in the Surface Warfare Directorate (now N96).

Fuller completed the Manpower/Personnel Training Analysis curriculum at the Naval Postgraduate School in March 1993, earning a Master of Science degree in Management. He also graduated from the College of Naval Command and Staff at the Naval War College, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies in November 2000, and from the Joint Forces Staff College in 2005.

Additionally, he was a 2009-2010 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI Fellow and completed the Navy Corporate Business Course at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

RDML Fuller assumed command of Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific in June 2015.
