Lieutenant Commander Viltz is a native of Port Arthur, TX. He enlisted in the Navy in 1993 and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Command at Prairie View A&M University.
Lieutenant Commander Viltz’s sea tours include Damage Control Assistant in USS JOHN L HALL (FFG 32), First Division Officer in USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67), Engineering Officer in MCM Crew LEADER, and Training Officer in USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8).
He also served as Warfare Certification Officer for Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific, CONOPS and Requirements Lead for Commander U.S. Third Fleet, Chief Staff Officer for CTF Shore Battle Space, and Strategic Plans Officer for the United Nations Mission to Stabilize Haiti.
Lieutenant Commander Viltz earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma.
Personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
