Chief Staff Officer (April 2011 - August 2012)

Commnader Michael "Mick" Bastian was commissioned via the NROTC Unit, Iowa State University, where he obtained a BA in Political Science. Upon completion of SWOS Division Officer School, Gas Turbine EOOW, and Damage Control Courses, he reported to USS KAUFFMAN (FFG 59) as Communications Officer and Damage Control Assistant. He then served as Company Officer and Navigation Instructor at NROTC Unit, University of Kansas, where he obtained a Masters of Business (MBA) degree.
Upon completion of SWOS Department Head School, he served as Chief Engineer on USS ARDENT (MCM 12), USS CHIEF (MCM 14), and USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58). He then reported to Afloat Training Group PACIFIC (ATG) as an Engineering Assessor.
Upon completion of SWOS Executive Officer School, he served as Executive Officer of USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47), Deputy Operations Officer of Expeditionary Strike Group THREE, and Executive Officer of USS CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71), before reporting to his current position as Chief Staff Officer of Naval Beach Group ONE.
