CAPT Adolfo H. Ibarra
Commanding Officer

Captain Ibarra is from Honduras and immigrated to the United States in 1980, and settled in Hillburn, NY. Following completion of the Naval Academy Preparatory School, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in History and commissioned in 1992.
His initial sea assignment was on USS Kidd (DDG 993) as Electrical Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer and included a Mediterranean Sea deployment. He also served on USS Cape St. George (CG 71) from 1996-1997 as Auxiliaries Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant and Acting Engineer Officer. While onboard Cape St. George he deployed on BALTOPS 97. Following department head school, he served as Engineer Officer on USS Stump (DD 978) from 2000-2001 and deployed to the Persian Gulf. After Stump, he served as Material Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO EIGHT from 2002-2003. His command assignments include Commanding Officer of USS Pioneer (MCM 9)/MCM Crew Exultant from 2004-2006 and USS BARRY (DDG 52) from 2009-2011.
Ashore, he has served as an instructor at the Damage Control Assistant School in Newport, RI. He is a graduate of the USMC Command and Staff College class of 2004. From 2006-2008 he served as a requirements officer for DDG 1000 Zumwalt class destroyer program at the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N86) staff. While at OPNAV, he conducted an Individual Augmentee (IA) assignment as Officer-in-Charge of a Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) battery in Bagdad, Iraq. His most recent assignment was to the Director of Operations Staff at United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) from 2011-2014.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.
