Master Chief Petty Officer Johnny Sanchez was raised in South Texas and enlisted in the Navy on 18 July 1989 in San Antonio, Texas. He completed Recruit Training and Fireman Apprentice School in San Diego, Calif.

His duty assignments include USS OLDENDORF (DD 972) Yokosuka, Japan, during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm; USS KINKAID (DD 965) San Diego, California; Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, Texas; USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) San Diego, California, during Operation Iraqi Freedom; Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) Pascagoula, Mississippi, during Hurricane Katrina; Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) Ingleside, Texas; USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40) Tumon, Guam; and United States Naval Academy Annapolis, Maryland, and 3MC onboard USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71.

During his career he earned the following Navy Enlisted Classifications (NEC) 4954 Maintenance Welder, 4955 Advanced Welder, 9585 Navy Recruiter Canvassers and 9517 3MC System Coordinator. In addition, he completed his Master Lean, Green Belt and Black Belt Six Sigma certifications.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (1), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (8 awards, Combat Action Ribbon and various unit and campaign awards.
