CDR Drew Borovies was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Springfield, Virginia. He attended Virginia Tech as a member of the NROTC program and Corps of Cadets and was commissioned following graduation in December 2000.
CDR Borovies has served at sea aboard USS CHOSIN (CG 65) as Communications Officer and First Division Officer; USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as First and Third Division Officers; USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) as Operations Officer; and DESTROYER SQUADRON 21 as Training, Tactics, and Future Operations Officer (N5/N7). He has deployed numerous times to the Arabian Gulf and the Pacific in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP 2010.
Ashore CDR Borovies most recently served as a Military Community and Family Policy Action Officer on the staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower & Reserve Affairs). His previous shore tour was as a resident student at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
CDR Borovies has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and numerous campaign and unit awards. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science degree in Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation from the Naval Postgraduate School.
