Commander Scott N. Richardson was commissioned via Officer Candidate School (OCS), Pensacola, Florida in October 1995. He is a 1988 graduate of Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri, and completed graduate school through Pittsburg State University Graduate Studies program in 1989; a 2001 graduate of Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, with a Masters Degree in National Security Affairs and Strategic Studies/Strategic Planning; a 2001 graduate of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, JPME Phase I, and a 2006 graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College, Joint Combined War-Fighting School, JPME Phase II. He is an Alumnus of the CNO Strategic Studies Group (SSG XXI) where he served as an Associate Fellow; and, was certified a Joint Qualified Officer (JQO) in April 2010.
Sea assignments include current assignment as Executive Officer, USS CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71), Deployed with ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Group; assignment as Staff Operations and Plans Officer (N3/5) on the Staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO (July 2005-2007), embarked in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); Flag Aide and NATO Military Assistant to Commander SECOND Fleet, Deputy Striking Fleet Atlantic (2004-2005) embarked in USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7); Operations Officer in USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66) and USS LABOON (DDG 58) via the first Atlantic Fleet Sea Swap initiative (2003-2005); Assistant OPS/PLANS (N3/5), Surface OPS/Scheduler, and Staff TAO on the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron FOURTEEN embarked in a multitude of Command platforms (1998-2000); AEGIS Fire Control Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58) (1996-1998); and Administrative Officer in USS CLIFTON SPRAGUE (FFG 16) (1993-1995).
Commander Richardson’s Joint and Shore assignments include Assistant Director, U.S. Navy Element, and Faculty/Curriculum Developer, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Surface Warfare Department Head School, Newport, Rhode Island; service as CNO Associate Fellow in the CNO Strategic Studies Group (SSG XXI) in Newport, Rhode Island/Washington D.C., and Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. A prior Chief Petty Officer he served in numerous operational billets prior to Commissioning.
CDR Richardson’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/MC Commendation Medal (sixth award), Navy/MC Achievement Medal (seven awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (two awards), and numerous Unit, Service, and Campaign awards.
