Lieutenant Commander Jim Drew is a native of Queens, New York and is a 1997 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he received a BS in Political Science. Additionally, he is a 2009 Graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College where he obtained a Master of Military Art and Science degree in Military History.
LCDR Drew’s initial Division Officer assignment was as Repair Division Officer in USS DENVER (LPD 9), then home ported in San Diego from March 1998 to March 2000. His second Division Officer tour was in USS YORKTOWN (CG 48) in Pascagoula, MS, where he served as Fire Control Officer from July 2000 to January 2002. As Department Head he served as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS THE SULLIVANS (DDG 68), home ported in Mayport, FL from June 2005 to June 2008.
Lieutenant Commander Drew’s shore tours include Division Officer Instructor at the Surface Warfare Officer School Command in Newport, Rhode Island; U.S Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS; and Fleet Scheduler for Commander, Sixth Fleet in Naples, IT.
Lieutenant Commander Drew’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
