Engineering Department

Led by the Chief Engineer, our engineering departments on board are in charge of all main propulsion and auxillary spaces, damage control, electrical services, and potable water. Engineering Department consists of Enginemen (A Division), Electrician's Mates (E Division), Gas Turbine Systems Specialists (Electrical and Mechanical) (M Division), Damage Controlmen (R Division), and Hull Technicians (R Divisions).
'A' Division Engineman
- Internal-combustion engines, either diesel or gasoline, must be kept in good order. This is the responsibility of ENs. They are also responsible for the maintenance of refrigeration, air-conditioning, and distilling-plant motors and compressors.
'E' Division Electrician's Mate
- The operation and repair of a ship's or station's electrical powerplant and electrical equipment are the responsibilities of EMs. They also maintain and repair power and lighting circuits, distribution switchboards, generators, motors, and other electrical equipment.
'M' Division Gas-Turbine System Technician
- GSs operate, repair, and maintain gas-turbine engines, main propulsion machinery (including gears, shafting, and controllable-pitch propellers), assigned auxillary equipment, propulsion-control systems, electrical and electronic circuitry up to printed cicuit modules, and alarm and warning circuitry. They perform administrative tasks related to gas-turbine propulsion-system operation and management.
'R' Division Damage Controlman, Hull Technicians, and Machinery Repairman
- DCs, HTs,and MRs perform the work necessary for damage control, ship stability, firefighting, and chemical, biological, and radiological (CBR) warefare defense. They instruct personnel in damage control and CBR defense, abd repair, damage-control equipment, and systems.
