Combat Systems Department
The Combat Systems Department, led by the Combat Systems Officer, is in charge of the maintenance and preservation of combat systems equipment and peripheral equipment involved in supporting our ship's ability for sustained combat related operations abroad. Among other equipment, Combat Systems Department maintains the SPY-1B Radar, Lake Erie's primary air defense radar, and is responsible for all internal and external communications throughout the ship. The department consisits of Fire Controlmen (CF Division), Electronics Technicians (CE Division), and Interior Communications Technicians (CE Division).
'CE' Division
Electronics Technician and Interior Communications
 - ET's and IC's are responsible for electronic equipment used to send and receive messages, detect enemy planes and ships, and determine target distance. They must maintain, repair, calibrate, tune, and adjust electronic equipment used for communications, detection and tracking, recognition and identification, navigation, and electronic countermeasures. They also repair equipment used in the ship's internal communications system, and the ship's gyrocompass system.
'CF' Division
Fire Controlman
 - FCs maintain the control mechanism used in weapons systems on combat ships. Complex electronic, electrical, and hydraulic equipment is required to ensure the accuracy of Aegis guided-missile control systems. FCs are responsible for the operation, routine care, and repair of this equipment, which includes radars, computers, weapons-direction equipment, target-designation systems, gyroscopes, and rangefinders.
