A Letter from Your Ombudsmen

Dear Newcomer,
Congratulations on your orders to USS Shiloh (CG-67)! On behalf of the chain of command and all our Shiloh families, we want to welcome you to Japan. As the ship’s ombudsmen, our job is to provide you with information and referrals to base and military services and to help ease the transition to living here in Yokosuka, Japan.

If you are a single sailor or will be a geographic bachelor during your tour, we can be a resource for your family members back in the states if they have questions or concerns.
If you will be moving to Japan with your family, we can help direct you to all the information you need to get your family settled in our community.

All crewmembers assigned to SHILOH are assigned a shipboard sponsor who can answer questions about your work assignment and other ship-specific information. Additionally, we have a Family Sponsor Program onboard SHILOH. We can match your spouse and family with a volunteer from our Family Readiness Group. Your family sponsor will be able to provide information about the schools, base activities, on- and off-base shopping opportunities, and any other questions your family may have about living in Japan. Family sponsors can also give you advice on housing here in Yokosuka, help with moving your pet here, buying a car here, or anything else you may have questions about. Please use this resource. We have wonderful families at our command who want to help your family get settled and enjoy your tour in Japan.

You may have many questions about life in Yokosuka, Japan. There are numerous sources of information available online. Let your shipboard sponsor and family sponsor help clarify any questions that may arise. Moving overseas is a big job, but we want to help address your concerns and give you as smooth a transition as possible. A good first point of reference is the Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka website, http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Yokosuka.

Contact us at omb4shiloh@gmail.com and let us know how we can help. If you are interested in our family sponsor program, please let us know the ages of your children so we can match you with a family sponsor with kids in the same age groups.

We are looking forward to meeting you soon and helping you enjoy a successful tour onboard SHILOH.

Sincerely,

USS Shiloh Ombudsmen
