Master Chief Shellinda A. Miller graduated in 1983 from William Penn Senior High School in York, Pennsylvania. She enlisted under the delayed entry program in October 1984. She began her enlistment a year later as a Seaman Recruit, completing Recruit Training in Orlando, Florida and Radioman “A” School in San Diego, California March 1986.
Her duty assignments include Naval Radio Receiving Facility Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico, where she was The first female selected as “Women of The Year” for Naval Security Group Activity, Puerto Rico for the year of 1987; Naval Telecommunication Center Mayport, FL; Naval Communications Center Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; USS Shenandoah (AD 44) where she earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia and was advanced to Chief Petty Officer; Commander, Test and Evaluation Force, Norfolk , VA where she served as the Operation Test Director for all Satellite and communications system, and was the first enlisted to fill the position. Master Chief Miller also served onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CV 65) Afloat Planning System where she earned her Aviation Enlisted Warfare Insignia and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. She then reported to Center for Naval Leadership Learning Site Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA where she served as Site Lead and earned her Master Training Specialist Qualification.
Master Chief Miller is a graduate from the U.S. Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 112, Khaki) in Newport, RI. There she received the “Honor Graduate Award” and “Peter Tomich Distinguished Graduate Award.” She is also a graduate of Saint Leo University where she earned her Associates degree in Liberal Arts in 1999 and her Bachelor degree in Human Resource Administration in 2004.
Command Master Chief Miller reported to Center for Naval Leadership Learning Site Yokosuka in August 2006, where she served as the Site Lead, was promoted to Master Chief and later selected for the Command Master Chief program. Master Chief Miller is a graduate from Command Master Chief Course (Class 63). Her personal awards include five Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, five Good Conduct Medals, and numerous campaign and unit awards.
