|CAPT Adam M. Aycock
Captain Adam McGregor Aycock is a native of Warren County, Tennessee, which claims the title as “Nursery Capital of the World”. After a year at Vanderbilt University, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated in 1994 having earned a B.S. in Oceanography and his Varsity Letter in Offshore Sailing.
He spent his Division Officer tours in USS RODNEY M. DAVIS (FFG 60) and USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53), both homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. His assignments included ASW Officer, DCA, CHENG, Communications Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer (A-OPS). Skipping shore duty, he rolled back to sea for his Department Head tours as OPS in USS STETHEM (DDG 63) and USS PRINCETON (CG 59).
Finally going ashore, he took an assignment at the Bureau of Personnel in Millington in the PERS 41 shop where he was the Assistant Community Manager (41M) and a Detailer. He then attended the USMC Command & Staff College in Quantico where he earned his Masters in Military Studies and JPME Phase I.
He then had the privilege of going back to sea to serve in early command as CO of MCM CREW REAPER, USS GLADIATOR (MCM 11) homeported in the kingdom of Bahrain, and USS SENTRY (MCM 3) homeported in Ingleside, Texas.
Rolling ashore again, he served on the Joint Staff in the basement of the Pentagon as an Action Officer in J34, Anti-Terrorism/Homeland Defense and as the Joint Staff’s Maritime Operational Threat Response (MOTR) SME.
He then had the privilege of going back to sea to serve in command as CO of USS MAHAN (DDG 72) homeported in Norfolk, VA. Following MAHAN’s maiden BMD deployment, he commanded Afloat Training Group Mayport. He is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of USS SHILOH (CG 67) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.
He has earned various Navy unit and personal awards along with DOD and NATO awards.
