LCDR Wood graduated from Valdosta State University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management. Following graduation, he was commissioned through Officer Candidate School at NAS Pensacola, Florida in 1997. He also attended Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB where he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art and Science.

Lieutenant Commander Wood’s prior enlisted service consists of tours as an Infantryman in the U.S. Army and a Cavalry Scout in the Georgia Army National Guard.

His surface warfare assignments include tours with USS STOUT (DDG 55) as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Damage Control Assistant, USS RUSSELL (DDG 57) as Operations Officer, and Commander, Destroyer Squadron NINE (CDS-9) as Operations Officer,.

Additional assignments include Fleet Composite Squadron Six (VC-6 DET PAX) as a UAV Mission Commander and Quality Assurance Officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command in the N5 Directorate as Assistant Fleet Plans & Policy, and U.S. Seventh Fleet as Ballistic Missile Defense Officer.
