|CAPT Justin A. Kubu
CAPT Justin A. Kubu was raised in Anderson, S.C. He is a 1995 graduate from The Citadel where he received a Bachelor of Science in business administration and was commissioned through the Navy ROTC program. He holds a Master of Science in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School and earned a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
His sea duty assignments include the commissioning crew of USS COLE (DDG 67) where he served as strike officer, damage control assistant, and weapons officer. Upon completion of Department Head School, he reported to USS LASSEN (DDG 82) in 2002 where he served as the ship’s weapons officer and combat systems officer.
In 2009, he reported to USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) assuming the role of executive officer, before fleeting up and becoming the ship’s commanding officer in 2011. Under his command, CHAFEE completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and was awarded the Battle Effectiveness (Battle “E”) award for operational excellence.
His shore assignments include a tour as a campaign analyst in the assessments division (N81) for the Chief of Naval Operations Staff, a tour as a warfighting-capabilities analyst in the Force Structure, Resources and Assessment Directorate (J8) of the Joint Staff, and a tour as the director for fleet training (N72) at Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, R.I. He also served as the executive assistant to Commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center.
He currently serves as the commanding officer of the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS PRINCETON (CG 59).
His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).
