Captain Mark Johnson graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 through ROTC. After commissioning he reported to USS WILLIAM H STANDLEY (CG-32) as Operations Intelligence Division Officer. His next tour was Main Propulsion Assistant and Boilers Division Officer in USS WADDELL (DDG-24).
Following a shore tour at the Naval Postgraduate School where he received his Masters of Science in Operations Analysis, CAPT Johnson served as the Chief Engineer in USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37). His second Department Head tour was Commissioning Chief Engineer in USS MAHAN (DDG-72).
CAPT Johnson went ashore and attended the Royal Australian Naval Staff College in Sydney Australian where he also completed his Graduate Management Certificate from the Queensland University of Technology. He returned to sea as Executive Officer in USS INGRAHAM (FFG-61). He then reported to Commander, United States Pacific Fleet where he served as the Fleet Command Center Director under the Deputy for Plans, Policy, and Operations (N3/N5).
CAPT Johnson’s Command Tour was in USS RENTZ (FFG-46) where he conducted an independent deployment in support of Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines. Following his tour in RENTZ, CAPT Johnson served as the Current Operations Branch Chief at Commander, United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.
CAPT Johnson’s decorations include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), Battle E, and various campaign and service awards.
