Lake Champlain FCPOA Conducts COMREL with San Diego Elementary School
SAN DIEGO – Sailors assigned to guided-missile cruiser USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN participated in a community-relations (COMREL) event at Kumeyaay Elementary School on 19-20 February 2013. This is to be an ongoing partnership between the ship and the school.
Fire Controlman 1st Class (SW) Christopher Guilford, Interior Communicationman 1st Class (SW/AW) James Wolfe and Lieutenant Michael Kennedy, a Navy chaplain from the Lake Champlain were available to participate in a running club, 3rd Grade Physical Education, reading and writing exercises with students, and organized activities for 1st-5th Grade recess.
IC1 (SW/AW) Wolfe commented, "It has been a very rewarding experience to work with the kids, staff and parents; I am looking forward with excitement to the development of a great partnership with such a fantastic school as Kumeyaay."
FC1 (SW) Guilford said, "It’s all about the kids. Our reward is knowing we have made a positive impact in these children’s lives."
