Commander Patrick K. McNamara, a native of San Diego, California, is a graduate of the University of San Diego. After his commissioning through the NROTC program and initial Surface Warfare training in 1987, his first sea tour was in USS BRISTOL COUNTY (LST-1198) as Communications Officer and Assistant First Lieutenant. After completing that tour he served as Scheduler on the Staff, Amphibious Squadron Seven in San Diego.
Following graduation from Surface Warfare Officer School Department Head Course (Newport, Rhode Island) in 1994, Commander McNamara served as First Lieutenant in USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD-44). In 1996 he reported to USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3) as Combat Systems Officer. From 1998 until 2001 he served in the JX Directorate as special assistant to Commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command. In 2001 he returned to sea as Executive Officer in USS PORTLAND (LSD 37) homeported in Little Creek, Virginia. From 2002 to 2005 Commander McNamara served as Surface Ops for Commander Task Force 76 in Okinawa Japan. He most recently served as Executive Officer at NROTCU Oregon State University in Corvallis Oregon before reporting to USS ANTIETAM (CG-54) in 2009.
Commander McNamara Bachelor of Arts degree Political Science. Among his personal awards are the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars and the Navy Achievement Medal.
