|CDR David Wagenborg
A native of Glenolden, PA a suburb of Philadelphia, Commander David Wagenborg graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1999. He then enlisted in the US Navy as a Cryptologic Technician, Collection. He graduated from A school and completed Morse Code School before being accepted to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned OCT 2001.
Afloat, CDR Wagenborg completed his division officer tours aboard USS BATAAN (LHD 5) where he oversaw a 6 month dry docking and availability before taking charge of 2nd division, and then aboard USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as the Navigator. During these sea tours he made two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a third deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom defending the Iraqi Oil Infrastructure and Anti-Piracy Operations off the Horn of Africa. As a Department Head he completed a Weapons Officer tour and fleeted up to Combat Systems Officer aboard USS O’KANE (DDG 77). During these tours he met O’KANE on a surge deployment to 7th fleet and completed two BMD independent deployments to 5th fleet. He then reported to Commander Carrier Strike Group THREE on deployment in 5th fleet as Assistant Surface Ops and Readiness Officer.
Ashore, CDR Wagenborg received a Master of Science degree in Information Systems and Operations at the Naval Postgraduate School and completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I. His most recent tour was as the lead inspector for C5I, Operations and Navigation on the TYCOM Material Inspection Team for Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific.
CDR Wagenborg’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Gold Stars) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Stars) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
