|CAPT Joe F. Cahill
A native of St. Albans, Vermont, CAPT Joe Cahill graduated from the University of Maine in 1992 with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science.
His first at sea assignment was aboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) where he served as a Propulsion Division Officer, Fuels Officer, and Surface Warfare Module officer. Completing his Surface Warfare, Engineering Officer of the Watch, and Tactical Action Officer qualifications Cahill was then assigned to the USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62) as Combat Information Center Officer. CAPT Cahill’s next at sea assignment was aboard USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60) where he served as Operations Officer. From 2002-2005 CAPT Cahill commanded USS MONSOON (PC 4) deploying in support of Operations Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. Cahill’s next at sea assignment was as the executive officer aboard USS RUSSELL (DDG 59). His last at sea assignment was aboard USS PREBLE (DDG 88) where he served as the Commanding Officer from 2010-2012. During these operational tours, he completed seven deployments to the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman and Pacific/Indian Oceans.
Ashore CAPT Cahill has served on the Joint Staff as an Action Officer; as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Strategy and Policy on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations; Executive Assistant to the Director for Operations U.S. Pacific Command; Branch Head Future Warships and new construction Destroyers for the Director of Surface Warfare on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations; Director of Advanced Tactics for the Commander of Naval Surface & Mine Warfighting Development Center. His most recent assignment was as the Director of the Distributed Lethality Task Force for the Commander of Naval Surface Forces.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and a variety of unit and campaign awards.
