|CAPT Yvette M. Davids
Captain Yvette M. Davids is a native of San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography and earned a Naval War College Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2002 and a Master of Science Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 2012. She is the 2008 recipient of the MANA National Latina Organization’s “Las Primeras” award as the first Hispanic female to command a warship in the U.S. Navy.
Captain Davids’ initial service at sea was aboard USS SAN JOSE (AFS 7) home ported in Guam. Serving as Electrical Officer, CIC Officer, and Communications Officer, she completed two deployments in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, and SOUTHERN WATCH. Following this assignment, Captain Davids was assigned as Aide to the Deputy and Chief of Staff, United States Pacific Fleet. She then served consecutive Operations Officer tours aboard USS DAVID R. RAY (DD 971), based in Everett, Washington, and USS NORMANDY (CG 60), home ported in Norfolk, Virginia. Captain Davids was then assigned as a Joint Exercise Communications Planner in the J6 Directorate at the Joint Training and Analysis Center (JTASC), Joint Forces Command (JFCOM). In March 2002, she graduated from the Joint Forces Staff College and has subsequently been designated a Joint Service Officer. She reported in September 2002 to USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) as Executive Officer. While on Higgins, the ship deployed to the Fifth Fleet area of operations in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. USS HIGGINS conducted the first-ever Commander, Naval Surface Force Pacific Guided Missile Destroyer Sea Swap with the crew of USS BENFOLD (DDG 65). Upon completion of her tour aboard BENFOLD, Captain Davids served at the Pentagon as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information, Plans, and Strategy (OPNAV N3/N5) followed by a tour at the United States Naval Academy as Director, Naval Academy Sailing. In 2007, she assumed command of USS CURTS (FFG 38) in San Diego, California and deployed to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. She served as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director of Commander, Naval Surface Forces Command prior to attending the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and is currently the Commanding Officer of USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52).
Captain Davids’ personal decorations include the Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (4), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), Joint Achievement Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal (2).
