STGCS (SW/AW) Thomas D. Hoban

Senior Chief Hoban is a native of Mullinville, Kansas. He graduated high school in 1994 and attended the University of Dubuque until 1996, he then enlisted in the Navy in 1998.

Following his graduation from recruit training at RTC Great Lakes and Surface Sonar Technician “A” and “C” school at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Facility Pacific in San Diego CA, his first duty assignment was aboard the USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) Norfolk, VA. Performing his duties as a SQR-19 technician, Work Center Supervisor and Sonar Supervisor, he advanced to Petty Officer Second Class and earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist pin. His follow on shore duty was to Command Naval Forces Japan, Detachment Okinawa. Serving as the Quality Assurance and Training Department Leading Petty Officer he earned the Master Analyst NEC (0507), as well as receiving his Integrated Undersea Surveillance Specialist pin. After completing that shore tour he volunteered for GSA orders to the Liberty/Victory complex Bagdad, Iraq with the Counter Rocket Artillery Mortar Unit 5, Joint Infantry Battalion 1, with 101st Army Airborne division. Upon completion of those orders he was the stationed aboard the USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77) qualifying as Staff ASWO as well as CDCWO, advancing to Petty Officer First Class and earning his Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist Pin. He then transferred to Naval Ocean Processing Facility, in Damn Neck VA. While there he was selected to Chief Petty Officer and qualified to the Tactical Watch Officer level. Upon receipt of orders to transfer to Destroyer Squadron Nine, Everett WA he attended Surface Ship Anti-Submarine Specialist School in San Diego CA, earning the 0417 NEC and advancing to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

Senior Chief Hoban’s military decoration include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (six awards) and numerous unit citation and service awards.

Senior Chief Hoban is married to the former Ms. Christie Tichon of Barberton, Ohio. Together they have 4 children; Ethan, Grieve, Sveinn and LeNora.
