Command Senior Enlisted Leader

Senior Chief Smoak is a native of Gastonia, North Carolina. He enlisted in the Navy and started his naval career at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois in January 1996.

Upon Completion of Sonar Technician Surface "A" school, he reported to USS NICHOLAS (FFG-47) for his initial sea tour. His subsequent sea tour was Commander, Undersea Surveillance (CUS) Detachment, in Naples, Italy. He reported to his current sea tour onboard the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron NINE in October 2012.

In November 2002, he reported to Naval Ocean Processing Facility (NOPF) in Whidbey Island, Washington. Subsequent shore tours include the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway, as a Navy Special Planner; and Commander Undersea Surveillance (CUS) in Dam Neck, Virginia.

Senior Chief Smoak’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various service, unit and deployment awards.
