Senior Enlisted Leader

Senior Chief Information Systems Technician Robert Aaron Labrenz, of San Leandro, California, enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1998. Upon completion of Recruit Training and Radioman “A” School on board the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois, he was assigned to the staff of Commander, SEVENTH Fleet, embarked in USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), in Yokosuka, Japan, from January 1999 to January 2002. He served successively in the Message Center, Local Area Network Division, and Systems Control Division, advancing from Radioman Seaman (RMSN) to Information Systems Technician Second Class (IT2).
Next assigned to the commissioning crew in USS Preble (DDG-88), in San Diego, California, from February 2002 to January 2005, he served as Network Administrator and Communications Watch Officer, advancing to First Class Petty Officer in November 2002. While assigned to Preble, the ship conducted her maiden deployment in 2004 with the Belleau Wood Expeditionary Strike Group in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Transferring ashore, he served as an instructor at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan, from March 2005 to March 2007. In this capacity he assessed and trained communications personnel on 15 forward deployed ships.
Returning to sea, Labrenz served in USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), in San Diego, California, from April 2007 to January 2012, advancing to Chief Petty Officer in September 2007. While assigned to Reagan, he served as Leading Petty Officer and Database Support Chief Petty Officer in the Information Systems Division (CS-3) and as Electronic Key Management System manager in the Communications Division (CS-1). He completed an individual augmentee deployment to the Headquarters, International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan, as a Theatre CIS Control Centre watch officer, from December 2007 to June 2008; and deployed in 2008, 2009, and 2011 in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, and TOMODACHI.
Labrenz’s next assignment was aboard the U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Naples, Italy, from February 2012 to March 2014, as Leading Chief Petty Officer of the Network Administration and Server Management Division and as a Joint Fleet Telecommunications Operations Center watch officer. He reported to the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron 7 in June 2014 for duty as Communications Officer, where he advanced immediately to Senior Chief Petty Officer and assumed duties as Senior Enlisted Leader in November 2014.
A 2006 graduate of Central Texas College, he holds an Associate’s Degree in General Studies and is in the final stage of pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland University College. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and is a qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist, and Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist. His personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (5 awards), and a variety of unit, campaign, and personal awards.
