LCDR Justin M. Bummara
Chief Staff Officer

A central New Jersey native, LCDR Bummara graduated from Norwich University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration-Management and was commissioned through Norwich’s NROTC program.
His previous at-sea assignments include Main Propulsion Assistant in USS ANZIO (CG 68), Navigator in USS HOPPER (DDG 70), and Chief Engineer in USS HIGGINS (DDG 76).
Ashore, he served on the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations as Action Officer in Readiness Reporting (OPNAV N430). While assigned to OPNAV, LCDR Bummara served an Individual Augmentation tour in Iraq with Joint Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare (CREW) Composite Squadron One (JCCS-1), having assignments as Battalion Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) for the 4th Brigade Combat Team 3rd Infantry Division Special Troops Battalion, Brigade EWO for Task Force 134 (MP North/South), and JCCS-1 Mobile Training Team Officer-in-Charge. Upon return, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School, earning a Master of Business Administration (Financial Management) degree and was subsequently awarded the Surface Navy Association Award for Academic Excellence in a thesis that makes a significant contribution to surface warfare.
LCDR Bummara assumed responsibilities of Materiel Officer (N4), Destroyer Squadron SEVEN, in March 2013, and additionally assumed the responsibilities of Chief Staff Officer in July 2014.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), Army Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
