A native of Comstock, New York, Captain Wallace Lovely enlisted in the Navy as a Machinist’s Mate on August 17, 1983. He was selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program, attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science/Nuclear Power Systems. He was commissioned an Ensign at Newport, Rhode Island in March of 1989.
Captain Lovely’s first assignment was with the USS WILLIAM V. PRATT (DDG 44) where he served as the Gunnery/Missile Officer. In 1991, he reported to the USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) as the Chief Engineer and Damage Control Assistant.
In 1994, he joined Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) as the NROTC Instructor. While at RPI, he earned a Masters of Engineering in Industrial Management Engineering. He then transitioned to be the Chief Engineer onboard the USS DE WERT (FFG 45). In 1999, he transferred to be the Material/Readiness Officer in COMDESRON TWENTY-FOUR. He was then assigned as Flag Secretary in COMNAVSURFGRU TWO. In June 2002, he reported as the Executive Officer onboard the USS SIMPSON (FFG 56). In 2003, he transferred to OPNAV as the Navy’s Shipbuilding Account Manager. From August 2005 to June 2006, he attended the National Defense University/Industrial College of the Armed Forces, graduating with a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy Resourcing. From June 2007 through December 2008, he commanded the USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS (FFG 58). He joined HQ USPACOM in February 2009.
Captain Lovely is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and various unit and campaign awards.
