|Captain Wallace G. Lovely
Commodore (July 2012 - January 2014)
A native of Comstock, New York, Captain Wallace Lovely enlisted in the Navy as a Machinist’s Mate on August 17, 1983. He was selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program and commissioned as an Ensign in Newport, Rhode Island in March of 1989. He is a Surface Warfare Officer.
Captain Lovely’s most recent at-sea assignment was as Deputy Commander, Destroyer Squadron THREE ONE from January 2011 through July 2012. He assumed command of the squadron on 31 July 2012.
He commanded USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS (FFG 58) from June 2007 through December 2008.
Additional at-sea assignments include Executive Officer in USS SIMPSON (FFG 56), Chief Engineer in USS DE WERT (FFG 45), Material/Readiness Officer in COMDESRON TWENTY-FOUR, Damage Control Assistant and Chief Engineer in USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) and Gunnery/Missile Officer in USS WILLIAM V. PRATT (DDG 44).
Ashore, he served as Assistant Professor of Naval Science at NROTCU Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) , Flag Secretary for Commander Naval Surface Group TWO, Navy’s Shipbuilding Account Manager at OPNAV and as Exercise and Readiness Division Chief at United States Pacific Command (J13).
Captain Lovely holds a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy Resourcing from Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University, a Masters of Engineering degree in Industrial Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Engineering Science/Nuclear Power Systems from The University of Texas at Austin.
His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and various unit and campaign awards.
