Senior Enlisted Advisor
Senior Chief Sonar Technician Justin Hastings is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a graduate of North Allegheny High School. In July 2001, Senior Chief Hastings enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After completion of recruit training in Great Lakes, he reported to Sonar Technician “A” School and AN/SQQ-89(V)10 “C” School. Following graduation, Senior Chief reported to USS LASSEN DDG-82 where he worked as a SONAR operator and maintenance man.
A STG2 at this point, he next reported to USS HOWARD DDG-83 as a SONAR supervisor and Work Center Supervisor for the Mk 116 Fire Control system and AN/SLQ-25C NIXIE torpedo countermeasure.
Senior Chief transferred to NOPF WHIDBEY ISLAND WA, where he rapidly mastered passive narrowband acoustic analysis, achieving the pinnacle qualification offered, Lead Analyst, promoted to STG1, and earned his IUSS breast insignia.
Earning his Journeyman Supervisor NEC in transit, he reported to USS PINCKNEY DDG-91, where he performed superbly as LPO, and then LCPO for CA division and ultimately, Weapons Department. He led his division through two deployments, a SRA, D-SRA, MCI, TMI, INSURV and two training cycles.
Senior Chief Hastings reported to COMDESRON 23 in March of 2017, where he serves as the ASW subject matter expert, contributing immensely to N5, N6, and N7 and is slated to take the responsibility of the Senior Enlisted Leader in August 2017.
Senior Chief Hastings’ awards include: one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, three Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Navy Unit Commendation, two Meritorious Unit Commendation Medals, two Battle “E” Ribbons, five Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon/Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, 4 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Rifle Sharp Shooter and Expert Pistol Ribbon.
