CAPT Tom Williams

Commodore Tom Williams, U.S. Navy is Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWENTY THREE. After attending public schools in Reston, Virginia, he received a commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY in 1992.

At sea Commodore Williams served as Commanding Officer USS WILLIAM P. LAWRENCE (DDG 110), Executive Officer USS ANZIO (CG 68), Operations Officer Destroyer Squadron TWENTY ONE, Operations Officer USS HIGGINS (DDG 76), Executive Officer and Operations Officer USS CHINOOK (PC 9), and Main Propulsion Assistant USS TICONDEROGA (CG 47).

Ashore Commodore Williams served as a strategist on the Navy Staff (N51) and Joint Staff (J5), Administrative Aide to the Secretary of the Navy and Department of the Navy Executive Secretary, White House Fellow and Special Assistant to the NASA Administrator, and Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations.

Commodore Williams was awarded a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy and was selected as a distinguished graduate from the National War College, Washington D.C. in 2013. He also earned a Masters in International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Washington D.C. in 1999. Commodore Williams has an enduring academic, professional and personal interest in Asia, with 28 years of study and experience in China’s history, politics, culture, military and language.
