|Captain Murzban Morris
Hailing from Spotswood, New Jersey, Captain Murzban “Murz” Morris received his Navy commission following graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1995, with a B.S. in Chemistry.
His initial tours were as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer aboard USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60) and as the Operations Officer onboard USS SQUALL (PC 7). After attending Department Head School in Newport, RI, he reported as the Operations Officer aboard USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56), forward deployed to Yokosuka, JA. CAPT Morris then shifted theaters and became the Operations Officer for Destroyer Squadron 60 stationed out of Gaeta, Italy. In July of 2010, Commander Morris reported aboard USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41) as the Executive Officer. In May 2012 he became the Commanding Officer of USS MCCLUSKY as part of the XO/CO Fleet-up program.
During his time aboard MCCLUSKY, the ship completed a very successful C4F Deployment, two training cycles, a successful INSURV and earned the Battle E twice in three years. CDR Morris turned over command of MCCLUSKY in February 2014 and assumed command of USS TAYLOR (FFG 50) later in 2014. While in Command of TAYLOR, the ship conducted operations in the Black Sea, Easter Mediterranean, SNFM-1 and SNFM-2, as well as an emergent deployment to the C4F AOR. Following the decommissioning of USS TAYLOR, CAPT Morris reported to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J-5 Asia Division in September 2015, where he served as the Japan Branch Chief and CoS for the DPRK CFT until June 2017, when he assumed duties as the Strategic Division Chief for DD-Asia.
Ashore, CAPT Morris attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He received a M.A. in National Security Affairs (South/Southeast Asia Specialty) in 2002. In June 2006, he reported to Commander Naval Surface Forces as the Combat Systems Officer (N65). In March 2007 he was selected for an IA tour to Iraq where he served as LNO from Multi-National Corps-Iraq (NMC-I) to the Office of Provincial Affairs (OPA) under the Department of State (DoS), overseeing and coordinating activities of the Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) with Coalition Force (CF) assets.
Personal decorations include Bronze Star, Two Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, two achievement medals and an Army achievement medal.
