PERTH, Australia (NNS) --
The crew of USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Carrier Air Wing 17 (CVW 17), USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) and USS Gridley (DDG 101) visited Perth, Australia, April 26 to May 2.
While in port, Sailors participated in six community relations events in and around the Perth area.
These events included building habitats in local animal parks to helping renovate a Returned & Services League building.
"For many members of the crew, this was their first time visiting Fremantle and Perth," said Capt. Karl Thomas, commanding officer of Carl Vinson. "I know many found this to be the highlight of a long and very rewarding deployment as they got a chance to discover all these fabulous cities had to offer."
U.S. Consul General in Perth Cynthia A. Griffin said she was enthusiastic to meet all the Sailors, and to continue strengthening the diplomatic and military ties between the U.S. and Australia.
"We are thrilled to have this group of amazing professionals here," said Griffin. "The dedication the Sailors display is incredible and I thank them for all for the hard work they do every day to keep us safe."
