Command Master Chief

Senior Chief Petty Officer Duran was born on the 4th of July, 1979 in Montebello, CA, and graduated from Northview High School in 1997.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Duran enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 6th, 1997. He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL and completed STG “A” and “C” school in Point Loma, CA. He reported to the USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37), homeported in Pearl Harbor HI, in June of 1999 where he served as AN/SQS-56 SONAR Maintenance Technician and CA Division Work Center Supervisor until his departure in May 2003. His next duty station was at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center (FLEASWTRACEN) in Point Loma, CA, where he served as an instructor from May 2003 to Oct 2006. While at, FLEASWTRACEN he qualified as a Master Training Specialist (MTS) and was selected as FASW Fiscal Year 2004 Junior Instructor of the Year and Fiscal Year 2005 Senior Sailor of the Year. In 2006, he was advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Following his tour at FLEASWTRACEN, he reported to pre-commission detachment USS STOCKDALE (DDG-106). Senior Chief Duran served as the Surface Ship Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Specialist, ASW Evaluator, Combat Acoustics Division Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO), and Weapons Department LCPO. In November 2011 STGCS returned to FLEASWTRACEN for his second instructor duty tour as Surface Ship ASW Specialist (SSAS) Course Manager and was quickly selected to lead the ASW Tactics Department. As the ASW Tactics lead, he spearheaded the lengthening of both ASWE an SSAS courses as well as contributing to the development of UWDC’s ASW-WTI program. STGCS would ultimately be recognized as FLEASWTRACEN Senior Enlisted Instructor of the year.

STGCS Duran reported to Commander, Destroyer Squadron ONE (CDS-1) in January 2015 as an ASW Specialist and now serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader.

His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three medals), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three medals), Good Conduct Medal (six awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
