Deputy Commodore

CAPT Nick A. Sarap Jr. is originally from Richmond, Va. and raised in Zanesville, Ohio. He earned a B.S. in Physics from Bethany College in 1991. He was then commissioned an Ensign through Officer Candidate School, Newport, R.I. and qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer in March 1994.
CAPT Sarap served as the Radiation Health/Safety and Electrical Officer in USS PUGET SOUND (AD 38), First Lieutenant in USS KIDD (DDG 993), Chief Engineer in USS THORN (DD 988) and Executive Officer in USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG 51). Command assignment includes USS FIREBOLT (PC 10) and USS WAYNE E. MEYER (DDG 108). He is currently serving as Deputy Commodore DESRON ONE.
CAPT Sarap’s shore assignments include Rear Area Plans Officer, CJ35 USFK, Navy Planner/Joint Action Control Officer, OPNAV N3N5 and Assistant Chief of Staff, COMPACFLT.
CAPT Sarap is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., where he completed a master’s degree in Physics and Physical Oceanography. He also received a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, in addition to various campaign and unit awards.
