Senior Enlisted Leader
Master Chief Mark Rudes is a native of Lake Placid, New York. He graduated from Wells Central School and immediately entered the U.S. Navy. He received recruit training at Orlando, Florida followed by Basic Enlisted Submarine School at Groton, Connecticut. His first assignment was onboard USS FRANCIS SCOTT KEY (SSBN 657)(Blue) at Charleston, South Carolina where he completed his submarine qualifications.
He struck Corpsman and attended basic Hospital Corpsman school at Great Lakes, Illinois. He reported onboard USS DIXON (AS 37) at San Diego, California where he completed his
certification as a paramedic.
Other assignments include USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9), Submarine Independent Duty
Corpsman School, USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724), COMSUBRON Eleven, USS PORTSMOUTH (SSN 707), USS SALT LAKE CITY (SSN 716), USS HOUSTON (SSN 713) and in South East Asia supporting Joint Task Force Full Accounting (JTF-FA) missions. Master Chief Rudes was assigned as Chief of the Boat onboard USS BREMERTON (SSN 698). He served as Command Master Chief for Commander, Submarine Development Squadron Five in Bangor, Washington, Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego, California and just completed his tour as Commander, U.S. THIRD Fleet Master Chief.
Master Chief Rudes assumed the duties of the Command Master Chief USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) in October 2008.
Master Chief Rudes is entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Enlisted Submarine Insignia, Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia and Enlisted Air Warfare Insignia. He completed his Bachelor of Science from the George Washington University in bio-chemistry and Master of Science from Arizona State University in environmental engineering.
