Command Master Chief
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Command Master Chief Fahrney enlisted in the Navy on April 4, 1990, reporting to the USS John C. Calhoun (SSBN 630)(BLUE) in September of 1991 after completion of his initial training. In February of 1994, he reported to the USS Kentucky (SSBN 737)(GOLD) in Kings Bay, Ga.
In 1998, he reported to his first shore duty assignment aboard TRIDENT Training Facility, Kings Bay where he completed his Master Training Specialist certification and received his Bachelor of Science in Education (Magna Cum Laude) from Valdosta State University.
Following his selection to chief petty officer in 2000, Master Chief Fahrney reported to the USS Wyoming (SSBN 742)(BLUE), where he served as the Weapons Department Enlisted Advisor until December 2002. From 2002 to 2006 he was assigned as the Force Missile Technician and Tactical Readiness Evaluator to the staff of Commander Submarine Forces Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was advanced to senior chief in April of 2003 and master chief in April of 2006.
Upon selection for the Chief of the Boat Program in April 2006, he attended the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 126) and the CMC/COB Capstone Course (Class 31) in Newport, R.I. Master Chief Fahrney served as the chief of the boat on board USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730) (GOLD) in Bangor, Wash. from October 2006 to May 2009. He was selected to the Command Master Chief program in February 2008. Following completion of the Senior Shore Station Leadership Program, Master Chief Fahrney reported as the Command Master Chief of Naval Base Kitsap, Wash. in May 2009. He is a 2010 Keystone Graduate of the National Defense University.
In January 2011, Master Chief Fahrney reported to the Commander, Carrier Strike Group Five/TF 70 permanently embarked aboard the USS George Washington (CVN 73) in Yokosuka, Japan.
Master Chief Fahrney is entitled to wear the Enlisted Submarine Warfare pin, the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (Four Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Three Awards), and various campaign, service and unit awards.
