BMU-1 Celebrates CPO Birthday
CORONADO, Calif. – Chief petty officers (CPO) assigned to Beachmaster Unit One (BMU-1) put on their service khaki to celebrate the 122nd birthday of the CPO rank, April 1.
The birthday celebration kicked-off with Chief Logistics Specialist Shane Braig reading Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (AW/NAC) Mike Stevens’ annual CPO birthday message.
April 1, 1893, is the date U.S. Congress approved the creation of a chief petty officer rank in nine ratings.
For 122 years, chief petty officers have been the deck plate leaders, the foundation for setting standards among crew members, and "the backbone of the Navy."
