CDR Stephen “Casey” Plew
Commander Casey Plew was raised in Weaverville, CA. He is a 1997 graduate of Oregon State University, where he earned Bachelors of Science degree in History and a commission as an Ensign through the Navy ROTC program. In October 2009 he completed his Master’s of Arts Degree in Nation Security and Strategic Studies at the Naval War College while also a Gravely (formerly Halsey IIIC) “Warrior-Scholar” studying Ballistic Missile Defense plans and operations.
CDR Plew’s first sea tour was in USS WADSWORTH (FFG 9), San Diego, CA, where he first served as Auxiliaries Officer prior to fleeting-up to assume duties as the Main Propulsion Assistant. He next reported to USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19) in Yokosuka, Japan, as Navigator and Assistant Operations Officer.
CDR Plew’s third sea tour was initially as Weapons Officer and then fleeting-up as Combat Systems Officer in USS DECATUR (DDG 73), homeport in San Diego, CA. His tour culminated in the completion of Flight Test Missile Twelve (FTM 12) in which USS DECATUR became the first Destroyer to successfully search, track, and engage a ballistic target with the Standard Missile Three (SM 3).
CDR Plew’s shore tours include assignment as Surface Operations Officer, Naval Special Warfare Unit Ten, Rota, Spain; Flag Aide and Administrative Assistant to the Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command; Advanced Radar Requirements Section Head, Surface Warfare Division, OPNAV N86; and, most recently as the Ballistic Missile Defense Operations and Readiness Officer at Space and Naval Warfare System Center, Pacific.
CDR Plew’s awards include the Meritorious Service Metal (2), Navy and Marine Commendation Medal (3), the Navy and Marine Achievement Medal (3), and various campaign medals and unit awards.
