YOKOSUKA, Japan – Afloat Training Group (ATG) Western Pacific in Yokosuka held its annual spring family picnic, May 3.
Cmdr. Scott McClelland, ATG Western Pacific’s commanding officer, gave his opening remarks thanking the families for the support they have given during what is shaping up to be one of the busiest years to date for the command.
To date, ATG Western Pacific has conducted 461 training and certification events in engineering; damage control; combat systems; seamanship; navigation; aviation; supply; anti-terrorism and force protection; visit, board, search and seizure; maintenance and material management; and search and rescue this year.
A great time was had by everyone and included lots of activities for families such as corn hole, an egg in a spoon relay, a pie eating contest, family tug-o- war, and a family sack race.
Medals were given to the top three finishers in each event. The highlight of the day was the dunk tank. During the previous month, members of the command could place their shipmates on the dunk tank list.
Money raised from the dunk tank will be used to fund community service projects at the Shiroyama Orphanage as well as other command functions.
