Command Master Chief
Master Chief Barcega is a native of Cavite province in the Republic of the Philippines. He enlisted in the United States Navy in Los Angeles, California on November 19, 1984. He completed Basic Recruit Training in San Diego, CA and Electricians Mate “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois.
Master Chief Barcega’s sea tours from June 1985 to December 1990 include USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) upon completion of his “A” school, USS WICHITA (AOR-1) where he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia, both home ported in NAS Alameda, CA, and USS SHASTA (AE-33). He also served from May 1993 to June 1997 onboard USS DIXON (AS-37), where he received his IMA Journeyman NEC, and then USS PELELIU (LHA-5). His subsequent sea tours were all on Forward Deployed Naval Forces. He qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch during his tour onboard USS CUSHING (DD 985) from July 2000 to July 2003. He was then assigned to USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19) from August 2003 to August 2006 and earned his STEAM EOOW. Prior to his third consecutive sea tour, he completed Senior Enlisted Academy Class 127 before reporting onboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63). There he served as Auxiliary Material Officer from November 2006 to September 2008 during which he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist insignia. Upon the decommissioning of USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), he reported as 3M Coordinator onboard USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19) from October 2008 to October 2011.
Master Chief’s shore tours include instructor duty for the Diesel Engineering Officer of the Watch Course at Surface Warfare Officers School Pacific at NAB Coronado, CA from December 1990 to May 1993 and Course Manager for the LAMPS MK-III RAST Electrical Technician Course at Fleet Training Center, San Diego, CA from March 1997 to June 2000, where he earned his Master Training Specialists qualification.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards), the Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit campaign awards.
